What is MVA?

MVA is a system for tabletop RPG gaming. It is complete and playable in its current form, yet more will be added to it in the future. MVA is entirely non-commercial and free to use.

MVA is a continuation of a previous system, ToD6, and was developed for the modern style game Mandal, Vest-Agder in which the players play children or teenagers in an alternative world much inspired by litterature like H. P. Lovecraft, movies like The Goonies and TV shows like Eerie, Indiana. However, MVA is suitable for a range of different settings. If you’re wondering if MVA might be for you and your game, here are some key features :

  • Characters generally use a specific die type (d4, d6, d8 or d10) and checks are made using two die
  • Less random. Characters performance will generally follow bell shaped (normal) probability curves with most performances okay (for their ability level) and few of them outstanding or horrible
  • Combat mechanisms that use grid (much like D&D) and strive for a good level of realism vs. streamlining
  • Incremental progress, no levels
  • Supports playing children, teenagers or adults
  • Has optional fear and insanity rules suitable for horror themed games

If you’d like to create your own game or setting using the MVA rules, you are free to do so, but please leave some credits along with a link back to this site.

Hope you have fun with it!
