In MVA, a character’s age is an important trait. A character’s age affects the following at character creation:
- Die type
- Attribute points
- Skill points
- Max rank
To figure out these things quickly, refer to the following table:
Age | Die type | Attributes | Skills / SXP | Max rank |
1 | – | 6 + 0 | 1 | 1 |
2 | – | 6 + 1 | 2 | 1 |
3 | – | 6 + 1 | 3 | 1 |
4 | d2 | 6 + 2 | 4 | 1 |
5 | d2 | 6 + 2 | 5 | 1 |
6 | d2 | 6 + 3 | 6 | 1 |
7 | d2 | 6 + 3 | 7 | 1 |
8 | d4 | 6 + 4 | 8 | 2 |
9 | d4 | 6 + 4 | 9 | 2 |
10 | d4 | 6 + 5 | 10 | 2 |
11 | d4 | 6 + 5 | 11 | 2 |
12 | d6 | 6 + 6 | 12 | 3 |
13 | d6 | 6 + 6 | 13 | 3 |
14 | d6 | 6 + 7 | 14 | 3 |
15 | d6 | 6 + 7 | 15 | 3 |
16 | d8 | 6 + 8 | 16 | 4 |
17 | d8 | 6 + 8 | 17 | 4 |
18 | d8 | 6 + 9 | 18 | 4 |
19 | d8 | 6 + 9 | 19 | 4 |
20 | d10 | 6 + 10 | 20 | 5 |
Explanations for columns
- Die type – the number of sides the base dice this character uses has
- Attributes – characters start with one in each attribute (6) and then receive another point every odd-numbered year of age up to 20.
- SkillsĀ – Starting skill points is the same as age up to 20.
- Max rank – Max rank is age/4 and rounded down with 1 as minimum and 5 as max. Max rank affects both attributes and skills, but can be circumvented with special GM permission (see special:prodigy).
At the GM’s discretion, very old characters could have backwards progression on parts or all of this table – or perhaps trade attributes for skills (ex. conversion: 1 attribute = 2 skills).
Characters older than 20 generally start out as age 20 characters.
